The intermediate level. The step that turns a certified beginner into a tradesman employers take seriously.
Trade Test Grade II sits between the entry level and the advanced level. It is issued by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment through its Skills Development and Certification Department, same as the other two grades.
Written variously as Grade 2, Grade II, TT2 or Trade Test 2. Same certificate.
Experience is the thing that separates this from Grade III. You are no longer being assessed as a beginner.
Grade III asks whether you can carry out straightforward tasks correctly and safely. Grade II asks more.
The examination has practical and written components, and the content varies by trade. Ask the centre for the syllabus that applies to your trade before you sit.
It moves you out of the entry level bracket. Contractors bidding for work often need certified artisans on the books, and the grade they need is usually above Grade III. Companies hiring directly use it to sort applicants. It also strengthens the file for anyone working towards overseas recognition, without being the top of the ladder.
What it does not do is guarantee anything. No certificate does. It gives you a stronger case to make.
Published guidance on experience thresholds varies, and the requirement is judged against the trade and the candidate. The honest answer is that you should ask the centre what your own experience qualifies you for rather than reading a number on a website and assuming it applies to you.
What is consistent is that Grade II is not something you sit the week after Grade III. Time working in the trade is part of the requirement.
ServHub Training is accredited by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to conduct trade test examinations, and we examine on site in Port Harcourt.
Trades we train and examine:
The Ministry uses its own trade categories, which do not always match the way a trade is described in the market. Ask us which category yours falls under.
Our Advanced programme is built for people already working in a trade who need certification that matches the skill they already have. The certification fee is included.
Come to the centre at 127 Igwuruta Road, Atali, Port Harcourt, any weekday between 9am and 4pm. No appointment. Bring somebody with you if you want. We will tell you which grade your experience puts you in a position to sit, and we will tell you plainly if the answer is Grade III rather than Grade II.
If you hold a certificate already and want to confirm it is in the records, read how to verify a trade test certificate.
💬 Ask About Grade 2Trade Test Grade II is the intermediate certification issued by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. It sits between the entry level Grade III and the advanced Grade I.
The grades are designed to run in sequence, and experience is part of the requirement at each level. Ask the centre what your own experience qualifies you for rather than assuming.
Grade III tests basic tasks carried out correctly and safely. Grade II tests work of greater complexity, carried out with less supervision, with a deeper grasp of the theory behind it.
It strengthens your file. Foreign authorities assess qualifications, experience, language and the job offer together, and no certificate on its own decides the outcome.
