What is assessed for plumbers and pipe fitters, and how the grades work.
Plumbing is steady work that never dries up. Every building has pipes and every pipe eventually fails. What separates a plumber who scrapes by from one who builds a business is whether the work holds, and whether anybody can verify he is trained.
The practical component covers the work itself:
The written or oral component covers materials, pressure, flow, fall calculation and the reasoning behind the practice.
Grade III is straightforward installation done correctly. Grade II covers more complex systems with less supervision. Grade I is for plumbers who can plan an installation, diagnose a fault in somebody else's work and take responsibility for a job.
Building contractors need certified plumbers on the books for the same reason they need certified electricians. Beyond that, plumbing appears on skilled worker shortage lists in several countries, which makes a graded certificate part of a credible overseas file rather than the whole of it.
Read what recognition actually involves before planning around that.
